I meet a lot of people and when they find out what I do for a living, I inevitably get remarks like. “I was looking into Martial Arts for me/my child…what should I be looking for in a school?”

Well the truth of the matter is that there is no better style. There are only better teachers and students.

Having said that, here are some tips to finding a school that is right for you.

Pro Only: You want a Professional Instructor & School! You don’t want someone who’s trying to make it as an Instructor. You want a Pro with years of experience.

I know what you’re thinking, “How do I tell the difference?”

Simple, start with the schedule if the school only offers 3 Classes per night and opens at 5 pm, this is a part-time school! Pro Schools usually open 10-10.

Next is the facility. It should be well kept and pristine and by clean, I mean hospital clean!

There should be multiple staff members and the instructors should be certified.

When it comes to a child, if the instructor does NOT allow Parents to stay and watch class—RUN! There should be a comfortable viewing area to watch class.

Next, Pros DON’T date or “hit” on students or their parents. You should be able to train or watch class without intimidation.

Finally, there should be a reasonably priced entry level offer where you can try out the program without risk or obligation.
