I am constantly asked why I am so passionate about Karate as an activity for kids? The truth is, that everyone can do Karate, but not everyone can play baseball or any other team sport.

I tried baseball as a kid, but was horrible at it. I was overweight, NOT athletic and had a “weekend warrior” for a coach.

Combine that with being shy, I didn’t get out much because I had to take care of my brothers while my parents worked. I also hated the “pressure” of how my performance could ill affect the team.

It just wasn’t a good fit.

I stuck out the season, but suffice it to say that I was relieved when it was over.

A few years later, I had the opportunity to learn Tae Kwon Do. What a difference. My teacher was a Master (Professional).

He was patient, nurturing and strong–a great role model. But most importantly, it was the first time in my life that it did not matter that I wasn’t athletic or very good.

I could go at my own pace.

All that mattered was that I tried my best and boy did I ever! I trained daily and within a very short time, I started to develop. I grew; my body became strong, flexible and fast.

Within 3 short years, I was a Black Belt!

Now I am not saying that Karate is a better activity than team sports. What I am saying is that I believe that team sports are not for everyone.

Whereas, at our academy your child can thrive whether they’re shy or confident, athletic or not and best of all, our caring qualified team will help your child excel at their own pace.

So if you’ve tried team sports to no avail, feel free to give us a call or better yet stop in.
