Dream with a [DEADLINE PT 1]
Dream with a [DEADLINE PT 1]
Children dream and they dream BIG! They dream of being an Astronaut, Scientist, Doctor and list goes on…
So what happens to their dreams as they get older?
Some make it. some don’t. Why is that?
Simple.
The ones that make it are the ones that turn their dreams into goals. The ones that don’t, keep on dreaming ☹ You see, goals are dreams with a deadline and we need to teach our kids to become goal setters early on. The acronym for
D-R-E-A-M=>Dedication – Responsibility – Education – Attitude – Motivation!!
As parents, our job is to teach our kids how to turn their dreams into goals. Easier said than done. With my own kids (I have 6), they all had 2 activities at any given time…
One, was Karate and here’s why…there is no better goal setting system than our Black Belt Success System. Kids learn how to set goals, strive for them, hit the mark and reset the bar and go onto the next goal! They do it systematically until it becomes second nature. Once that happens, they start to become goal setters in all areas of their life!!
The next activity was what they wanted, excited them, but had to be something worthwhile. One of my kids wanted hockey, another basketball, next robotics, soccer and my girls wanted dance. From a very early age they were taught commitment and follow through. They learned my Rule #1—"If I’m paying, you’re going and it’s not up for discussion until the program is completed.”
Sounds very strict? Maybe, but they never quit anything, plus after completing the initial program they knew whether or not it was for them.
So what’s the result.
All my kids are successful professionals…2 went into Real Estate, one runs one my schools, next is a Physical Trainer and my girls are pursuing nursing and becoming a physician. They developed their focus commitment and perseverance from their activities combined with Karate.
Goals really are dreams with deadlines.
No, we’re not talking pipedreams, wishful thinking and somehow, magically they come to fruition. You see all the positive thinking in the world will not get you what you want.
Ex: Let’s say I wanted to become a horse Jockey. Positive thinking will not get me there…I’m 6 ft tall and 210 lbs and jockeys are barely over 5ft and 125 lbs. There’s just too much of me to love 😉
So here is the key to goal setting…
Have goals!
Keep them realistically aggressive!
Write them down!
Set a completion date!
And if they don’t hit the completion date, so what! Yesterday really did end and today is a new day and it will be better…just have them reset the completion date and GoForIt!
