Let’s face it, we all want our kids to
- Go to a good school.
- Have good grades.
- Get a good job.
Schools are easy enough to find through reputation and reviews. Getting a good job is a result of a solid academic career and making good choices.
The one that concerns (and keeps us up at night) most is grades. When our kids don’t do well in school we blame ourselves or even worse our ego gets involved and we say “But I was good in school!?” so we blame our significant other’s gene pool 😉
But the truth of the matter is good grades or not having them is a result of “how” a child learns.
Human beings learn in 4 Ways:
- Visual
- Audio
- Kinesthetic
- Orfactory
Visual=>Learn by seeing/demonstrating. Once they see how to do something, they can follow .
Audio=>Learn by hearing–They need things explained.
Kinesthetic=>Learn by feeling—They have to do, be hands on.
Orfactory=>Learn by smelling. Ex: You smell smoke, this Means Fire=>DANGER!
The problem our kids have is that the school system is only designed to cater to 1/3 of the student body—The “visual” student. Now there are progressive schools that cater to all learning abilities, but they are few and far between.
So what happens when your child is audio or even worse, kinesthetic?
Your child is going to struggle. This is where YOU come in.
Knowing how your child learns will be key to their academic success. Now there are signs as to how your kid learns and you have to be on the lookout for them. Here are examples…
If your child keeps asking for demonstrations or for you to “show” them, they are visual.
If they I don’t understand and want more explanation, they are audio.
Kinesthetic kids need to do, they don’t like sitting, they have to be on the move because the world just moves too slow for them!
Need help? Stop by our academy and watch as our Instructors demonstrate (visual), Explain (audio) and then have them perform (kinesthetic) techniques.
So the key here is know how your child learns, cater to those needs at home and I’ll see them at the Top!
